During Spring Break, 17 Grant Career, Allied Health and Veterinary Science students attended the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Ohio State Leadership Conference. Our students were divided into three categories: competitors, officers, and voting delegates. HOSA is one of Grant Career Center's several Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) on campus.

CTSOs improve student learning by providing contextual education, leadership and personal development, applied learning, and real-world application.

Through the application and engagement of students in hands-on demonstrations and real life and/or work experiences through a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, CTSOs work as an integral component of the classroom curriculum and instruction, building upon employability and career skills and concepts. CTSO activities, programs, and competitive events give opportunity for learning the skills and talents needed to be successful in those fields. Students can also occupy leadership positions at the local, state, and national levels, as well as attend leadership development conferences to network with other students and corporate and industry partners.

Students began their adventure at the regional level, where they had to pick from 36 different subject/contest areas. If they placed in the regional competition, they advanced to the state competition. Competitions, leadership seminars, a hypnotist, and Keynote Motivational Speaker Dave Roever were all part of HOSA's jam-packed two-day event. The students had a blast!

Mallory Felts (Williamsburg HS) and Haley Kimmerly (New Richmond HS) made it to the final round of the State Competition, but were unable to advance. Congratulations to Violet Jacobs (New Richmond HS) who placed 3rd in Interviewing skills, and M.Simmons (Bethel-Tate HS)  who placed 3rd in Clinical Lab for Animal Health.
